Beer Awards – Regional Listings
Any type of beer can be entered into the regional awards but the brewer who produces the beer cannot have a total production capacity of greater than 60,000 hectolitres per annum.

Beer Awards – National Listings
The following categories are open to entrants from both UK and international brewers. Brewers entering products into these categories must have total production volumes of at least 60,000 hectolitres per annum.

Bitter/Ale
The main fermentable cereal is malted barley, other cereals can be used in the grist. Fruits, herbs, and spices can be added for flavouring. Traditionally top-fermented at temperatures typically between 12°C – 22°C.

Speciality Beer
Includes both fruit beers and wheat beers. Fruit beers are those which have a dominant fruit flavour - cherry, raspberry, and peach are commonly used, though it could be any fruit. Wheat beers are those which have a significant proportion of wheat in the mash. It could also be called a Witbier, Weisse or White beer.

Porters & Stouts
Dark in colour, often black and made using dark roasted malts and grain. There are a number of variations including chocolate, sweet stout, dry stout, and Imperial stout.

Lager
A beer fermented and conditioned at lower temperatures than an ale. Tradionally bottom fermented, the yeast performs at a cooler temperatures, typically between 1°C – 10°C.

An alcoholic drink made from fermented apple or pear juice.

WINE

UK Still Wine
An alcoholic drink resulting from the fermentation of grapes or grape juice in the United Kingdom with an abv of no more than 15%.

UK Sparkling Wine
A sparkling alcoholic drink resulting from the fermentation of grapes or grape juice in the United Kingdom. Typically made using the méthode champenoise but may also include wines made using the charmat process.

Organic alcohol drinks
An alcoholic drink that conforms to any of the 10 approved Organic certification bodies in the UK. These and any other international schemes must comply with EU regulation 2092/91

Best Innovation
An alcoholic drink that challenges convention and sets new standards for its category. We are specifically looking for unique new products of any style that have a unique selling point. They may be new RTDs, cocktails, have unique/unusual ingredients or simply spear-head an emerging category.
